Mr. Barnes was born in Independence and lived there most of his life; he moved to Houston in 1985 and to Austin in 1987. He was a travel agent for the White-Herron Travel Agency in Austin.
He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, Independence. Survivors include his mother, Louise E. Barnes, Independence; two brothers, Doug C. Barnes, Independence, and Bruce D. Barnes, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and a sister, Mary L. Shandler, Topeka.
