Obituary of Thomas Lee Robinson

IN THE CARE OF

Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home & Floral Hills Cemetery

Thomas "Tom" Lee Robinson, age 76, of Independence, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, surrounded by family at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born July 20, 1945, in Independence, MO to Earl and Freda Robinson.

After graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1963, Tom was employed at the Kansas City Terminal Railway before entering the Marines in 1966. He married Susan Lee Roork Hopkins on May 21, 1966, in Independence, MO. Tom was very patriotic and proud to have served in the US Marine Corps for six years, followed by ten years in the Army National Guard. After returning from his US Marine Corps active duty, he began working at Ford Motor Company and retired after thirty-seven years.

Tom was a true family man. His life revolved around his wife, kids, and grandkids. Meeting his wife Susie at a party when they were just teenagers, they embarked on a love story of understanding and unwavering devotion for over 56 years. Tom’s adoration for Susie was undeniable. He made sure that she was happy and taken care of, even if it was something small like bringing home her favorite fountain drink and greeting her with a kiss each day. Together they demonstrated what a loving husband and wife should be, and leading by example, raised four strong, kind, loving, compassionate children. Tom was a very supportive father, and the kids knew there was no problem too big or too small they couldn’t talk to him about. He was often heard telling his kids to “not sweat the small stuff”. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. Tom was the best Papa to his grandkids and very active in their lives, taking them to school several days a week and attending all their activities. Whether it was sitting around the kitchen table or a bonfire, there was nothing that made him happier than to tell stories, joke around, and laugh with his family.

After retirement Tom enjoyed leather working, wood working, traveling with Susie and family, and especially riding his Harley with his son, Jeremy, and their friends.

Anyone who knew Tom was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He had the ability to calm any situation but was also fiercely loyal and extremely protective of his family. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by so many.

Left behind to cherish Tom’s memory is his loving wife, Susan, and their children Jeff (Kate) Robinson, John (Nicki) Robinson, Jeremy Robinson (Gennifer), and Jana (David) Brown; grandchildren Jason (Shelly) Robinson, Cody Robinson, Tyler Robinson, Zach Robinson, Sophia Robinson, Lincoln, Emmy and Elle Brown, Elli (Ryland) Sims, and great-grandchildren Ellis Robinson, Emery and John Sims and brother, Joe (Teri) Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Freda Robinson, his brother David Robinson, and sister Lynn Robinson.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133, with visitation to be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Military graveside service with full honors and interment will follow the service at Floral Hills Cemetery.
