Bio Larry Jerome Robinson, 52, Prairie Village, Kansas, departed June 7, 1997. He was born May 30, 1945 in Independence, MO, the eighth of ten children, to the union of Henry and Willa Belle Robinson. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and attended Northeast Missouri State College, Maryville, MO on an athletic scholarship. Thereafter, he played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was the Golden Gloves Champion for three years in the Light Heavy Division. Larry was the first African American to be hired by the City of Independence, for their Fire Department. At the time of his death, he was employed with G. C. Construction, Blue Springs, MO. He was a member of Laborer Union Local 663. Larry was baptized at the Second Baptist Church, Independence, MO, where he attended Sunday School and was a member of the Jr. Ushers, Youth Choir and Youth Auxiliary. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Henry and Willa Belle Robinson; brother, Henry Robinson; and sister, Helen Shields. He leaves a former wife, Annis Robinson, Prarie Village, KS; a son, Staff Sgt. Craig Copridge, Darmstadt, Germany; a daughter-in-law, Phalonda Copridge, Darmstadt, Germany; stepchildren, Cynthia Duke Swoope and husband, William Swoope, Jr., and David Herdt, Overland Park, KS; sister, Evelyn Johnson, Kansas City, MO; six brothers, Clarence Robinson, Inskter, MI, Vernon Robinson, Kansas City, MO, Walter Robinson, Norman Robinson, Donald Robinson, and Floyd Robinson, Independence, MO; two aunts, Alberta Marshall and Josephine Robinson, Independence, MO; and five grandchildren, Danielle, Carisha Copridge, Christian, Cara Duke, and Dainan Swoope.
