Funeral arrangements for Carl Duane Burns are set for Thursday, August 31, 2023.  His family will receive family and friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO.  A committal service with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.  His family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.  Memories of Carl and words of comfort for his family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com

Carl Duane Burns, 78, a resident of Independence, MO passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO.  He was born January 14, 1945 to Carl J. and Vera C. (Lett) Burns Buckner, MO.

Carl was a 1963 graduate of William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO.  He served his country proudly in the United States Army with the 5th Infantry Regiment Bobcats, until he was honorably discharged from his service.  Carl was united in marriage to Sarah Counti on April 14, 1973 in Kansas City, MO.  He worked as a commercial laborer for the Laborer’s Local Union #264 for 30 years before his retirement in 2000.  Carl was a ham radio operator; enjoyed working on anything with 4 wheels, and fixing electronics.  Above all Carl cherished traveling to beach destinations with his wife and family.

Survived by his loving wife, Sarah Burns of Independence, MO; children, Kristy Burns (Justin Ewer) of Lawrence, KS; Stephanie Schneider of Blue Springs, MO, Lisa Fox (Donna Calipetro) of Lewisville, TX; 6 grandchildren; sister, Kathy Stapleton of Booneville, MO.  Carl is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Cary.
